Your private driver will pick you up at 9:00AM at your hotel, Airbnb, Termini train station or Fiumicino airport.
The Etruscans are one of the oldest civilizations that lived in Italy. Always considered a mysterious people, there has been much discussion about their origins and writing. However, scholars and archaeologists have been able to bring to light some important traits of this archaic and refined culture. They are considered one of the great civilizations of the past. The Etruscan culture had direct influences on the Roman one. In fact, after Rome’s conquest of Etruria, there was a process of assimilation. Even today, many aspects of this civilization, such as the language, are still mysterious to us. Visiting the Etruscans (Town of Cerveteri) means above all entering the ancient burial areas of which we still have archaeological traces: The Banditaccia Necropoli. It is one of the largest necropolises of the ancient world. Crossed by a burial road more than a mile long, it developed from the 9th century BC. to the Hellenistic-Roman age. The Cerveteri necropolis was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004 and constitutes the first example of sites referable to the Etruscan civilization.
A few minutes from Cerveteri there is the town of Bracciano. Lake Bracciano is above all known for its scenic position near the imposing Orsini-Odescalchi Castle which can now be visited with guided tours or in high-level events and represents both an ideal holiday location. The surroundings of the lake are dotted with natural attractions, such as botanical gardens, splendid woods and well-preserved rock formations within the Regional Park of Bracciano and Martignano.
After the stop at the lake the tour will take you to the ancient town of Ceri for your lunch break. The small village of Ceri is located on a tuff cliff, not far from the ancient Roman consular road, the Via Aurelia. It was once an inhabited center dependent on the Etruscan city-state of Caere, an age of which the territory of Ceri retains significant vestiges. In the Middle Ages it became a fortified village, disputed between powerful Roman families, the municipality of Rome and the papacy. According to tradition, Saint Felix II, pope and martyr of the 4th century, whose cult is still practiced today, lived his last years in Ceri.
At the end of lunch your driver will take you back to Rome to drop you off at your hotel (5:00PM).
